Combination of techniques helps to understand pore structure on different scales
This study makes use of state-of-the-art imaging and modeling at micro to macro scales to understand the multi-scale pore structure of organic-rich shale and its effect on gas transport. It is a good example of workflow to characterize structure of a very complex porous medium on different scales and to relate the structures to the macroscopic transport property, in this case, the gas permeability. It represents a useful road map for future studies to better simulate gas transport through tight formations.
