Explaining seafloor tsunami magnetic signals
This paper provides the latest installment in the improved numerical modeling and diagnostic interpretation of tsunami-generated magnetic fields. The authors present a powerful new simulation method and apply it to the 2011 Tohoku tsunami event, revealing the spatiotemporal properties of the tsunami-generated electro-magnetic fields in unprecedented details. The new method proves very effective at separating oceanic and ionospheric effects, which is crucial for investigating tsunami-ionosphere coupling.
