Hypothesis for the formation of V-shaped ridges
V-shaped ridges (near mantle plumes are key to understanding rift-plume interaction. This paper examines the v-shaped ridges associated with the Iceland hotspot. The authors incorporate an analysis of seismic reflection data with an extensive literature review of existing work to shed new light on the strengths and weaknesses of three hypotheses previously posited for the formation of v-shaped ridges in the seafloor near the Iceland mantle plume. Overall, this paper gives further insight into the Iceland anomaly and should be of great interest to the oceanic crust community.
