A new co-rotation electric field model
This paper computes the electric field that arises as a result of the (main) magnetic field produced within the Earth and co-rotating with it. This is a difficult subject that requires dealing with the complex issue of the behavior of the Maxwell equations when changing from an inertial frame of reference to a rotating frame, and back. A lot of math, simplifying assumptions, and change of frame manipulations are involved. The authors of this study use geomagnetic field measurements from Swarm satellites to calculate the co-rotation electric field. This co-rotation electric field is meaningful not only for the Earth’s ionosphere but also for other planets.
