A network approach to understanding ecosystem processes
Temporal Information Partitioning Networks (TIPNets) is an approach presented by the authors of this paper to analyze information flows within a network of interacting variables. They apply the method to data from a weather station, showing how network characteristics differ between day-time, night-time, rainy, and dry time periods, and over a season. The identification of synergistic information and redundant components provided by environmental variables is an important open question, and this paper provides tools that can be of importance for that task. A successful extraction of information is the pillar for building successful environmental policies.
