Observability of Ionospheric Space-Time Structure with ISR: A Simulation Study
Editors’ Highlight—New electronically steerable array (ESA) incoherent scatter radars (ISR) have the potential to make some important discoveries but many of their capabilities can only be fully exploited and the results believed if we have a formal process for determining the errors. The authors of this paper developed SimISR, an open source ISR simulator, which offers a more sophisticated way of estimating the errors of different parameters. As a tool, SimISR can assist in identifying the optimal way to make measurements of interest and thus increase the utility of ESA class ISRs.
