Evaluation of new aerosol data set
This paper presents a thorough evaluation of a major new aerosol data set in one of the main aerosol source regions of the world. The Multiangle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) algorithm can produce products such as aerosol optical depth (AOD). The authors perform a validation analysis at 19 AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork) sites over South America. Previous versions of MAIAC have been evaluated regionally in other publications but this is the first validation for South America. This is timely given that MAIAC data products will soon be released to the public.
