Nutrient and phytoplankton dynamics on the inner shelf of the eastern Bering Sea

Editors’ Highlight—This study draws from in-situ biogeochemical data collected over several years of field work in the Bering Sea, an ecologically- and economically-important region. This paper examines nutrient chemistry and nitrogen cycling, looking specifically at the inner shelf. The authors find that the Inner Shelf Domain depends upon both regeneration of nitrogen and advection from the Middle Shelf Domain to replenish inorganic nitrogen. The findings represent a step forward in our understanding of nitrogen cycling in the region.
