Earthquake-induced soft-sediment deformations and seismically amplified erosion rates recorded in varved sediments of Köyceğiz Lake (SW Turkey)
The study uses a fantastic varved sedimentary record in a lake in southwest Turkey to evaluate the imprint of seismic shaking on the sediments and landsliding within the catchment. The combination of rich lake record and estimates of peak ground acceleration from historical earthquakes allow the authors to constrain limits for catchment response within the lake sediments. The resulting limits may be used to guide interpretations from similar lakes in order to better constrain recurrence intervals of large earthquakes.
